The SAIC is a fully functional imaging facility that contains preclinical PET, SPECT, MRI, CT, and optical imaging instrumentation. It is staffed by two research scientists. The facility is unique in that it has 9 specialized imaging rooms, which can operate in either barrier or non-barrier health status. This designation can be switched daily based on the studies to be performed and the needs of investigators. In addition, there are 4 radioactive animal housing rooms, 3 specialized imaging rooms, a sample preparation room, a room equipped for biodistribution studies and histological processing of radioactive tissues, a data management room, and an image analysis room.
